Mentors
Mentors play a critical role in our team structure. It is our team’s policy that whatever a student can do, they should do. However, mentors are vital for guidance and experience which is necessary for our team to function properly. Many of our mentors are parents of students on the team that work with our different subteams. Our mentors range in careers from software engineers, to mechanical engineers, to professors. They help to provide aid and incite from their experience in their professional and personal life.
Beyond our mentors aiding with direct aspects of our team, they serve as role models for our students, as well as inspirational figures for career paths and life styles. Our parent mentors recently have been recognized for their excellence when our former head mechanical mentor, now programming mentor, Dr. Edward Hensel, won the Woodie Flowers Mentor Award in 2007. Another important aspect of our team mentors are our two lead school advisors, Mr. Breese and Mrs. Booton. Mr. Breese is a technology teacher and has been an advisor for our team for five years, and Mrs. Booton is a math and computer science teacher who has been an advisor of our team for two years. They are always willing to aid students or come earlier and stay later so students can get more work done.
