Blue Lightning, Team 578, is a robotics team located in Fairport, New York. The team was started 12 years ago by Fairport High School Science teacher Eugene Gordon and 27 students.

Since then the team has grown into a much larger team with 52 students, freshmen to seniors, led by Dave Breese, a Fairport Technology teacher and Carolyn Booton, a Fairport Math and Computer Science Teacher. The team is strongly supported by several adult mentors, encouraging parents, and sponsors. The members of Team 578 work hard and well together and are very confident in their work. Many of the members on the team are currently enrolled in technology classes taught at the school and plan to continue their education in science and technology. The academic effect that FIRST has had on the team is profound.
