Progress Reports:

What are they?

At every build season meeting, each of our subteam leaders fills out a report of what their subteam did on that day and what they hope to do next meeting. This helps the team know what everyone is doing and helps us with deadlines.

Week 1- January 7, January 10, January 12
Week 2- January 14, January 17, January 19
Week 3- January 21, January 24, January 26
Week 4-
January 28, January 31

January 7-

  • continued discussion
  • liked a reinforced scissor-lift idea
  • left possibility of spring propulsion open
  • inflated the trackball
  • discussed the size of the ball in relation to the bot and the field

January 10-

  • Considered scrapping the scissor-lift idea because:
  • weight limit

  • possibly not tough enough to stand up to competition
  • high center of weight
  • discussed the possibility of a swinging boot

  • continued to work on pneumatics

    Next time:

    • Will discuss designs with the entirety of the Subteam and hopefully make a decision

    • Try to work a bit with the actual physics to see which designs are plausible

January 12-

  • made prototypes of boot, pneumatic and spring designs

  • Boot: succeeded
  • pring: unsafe
  • pneumatic: failed

Next time:

  • continue working on the boot and its prototype

January 14-

  • designed the boot's lift and release

  • tested large cylinder, failed
  • took a vote boot vs. pneumatic (50/50)

Next time:

  • decide: pneumatics or boot

  • look up the legality of both
  • create a parts list

January 17-

    • made a Pugh chart to compare the qualities and issues of the boot, pneumatic, and nothing bots
    • decided on the boot bot
    • boot will be lifted by a sprocket and piston
    • made a list of parts

    Next time:

    • set final designs of boot

    • see what parts we have
    • work on whatever we have parts for

January 19-

  • finalized the CAD drawings of the bot and dung beetle

  • finalized parts list

  • began construction of dung beetle

  • nearly finished rigging up the pneumatics
  • ordered parts

Next time:

  • continue work on dung beetle

  • work on boot, as soon as we get parts

January 21-

  • worked on the dung beetle; built most of it
  • finished the pneumatics

Next time:

  • finish dung beetle

  • hope for parts

January 24-

  • got parts

  • Cut the 80-20 for the A-frame
  • Started cutting the lexan sides of the boot
  • Attached pneumatics

Next time:

  • finish the boot

January 26-

  • finished the A-frame

  • successfully tested the dung beetle

  • mounted A-frame to drive train

Next time:

  • add supports to A-frame

  • experiment with surgical tubing

January 28:

  • finished A-frame
  • tested the boot, it failed, but was very close

Next time:

  • work with the physics of the boot and decide what can/should be done to improve it

January 31

  • started to add a new sprocket to gear box

  • laid out designs for a pit construction

Next time:

  • work on the boot and making sure it works consistently
