The Lift:
After many concept designs, young engineers on team 578 came up with a simple, yet efficient, design. It involves capturing a tube in a cut-out at the front of the robot, and then applying pressure to the tube with a pneumatic piston.
This simple design allows the tube to be lifted to the second level of the spider and then dropped on to that level this allows an easy yet efficient way of scoring on a violently shaking playing field.
The Drive Train:
Every year young engineers from our drive train team work hard to create the next best innovation in team 578's line of products. A unique spring tensioning system works to keep Kate Gleason 4's chain intact through the rough 2 minute matched our robot will journey through.
The drive train includes 3 wheels on each side that will be powered by a motor on each side. The drive train is also built to support over 120 pounds of distributed weight, that means Kate Gleason 4 may be an entirely different robot when we compete in Philadelphia.
